That’s a wrap for the evening session of Day 2 at WTT Champions Incheon! 🔥 If you missed the action from the morning session, you can check it out here.
One of the key storylines tonight was Hugo Calderano seeking revenge against Lim Jonghoon after his defeat last week. Could the Brazilian turn things around this time? Let’s dive into the results!
Lily Zhang (#24) vs Shin Yubin (#10) – 0:3 (3:11, 9:11, 4:11)
These two had met twice before—once at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Shin Yubin dominated with a 4:0 win, and once at the ITTF World Cup in Macau, where the match ended 2:2 due to the tournament’s unique group-stage format.
Today, there was no doubt about the winner. The Korean star controlled the match from start to finish, securing a comfortable straight-game victory to move into the next round.
Yukiya Uda (#30) vs Truls Moregard (#7) – 0:3 (7:11, 3:11, 10:12)
Before this match, their head-to-head record was tied at 1-1. However, Uda’s only victory over Moregard came a long time ago—back in 2014 at a junior event.
Today, there was no doubt about the outcome like in the previous match. Like Shin Yubin before, Moregard controlled the match from start to finish, giving Uda little room to fight back. A dominant 3-0 victory for the Swede, securing his spot in the Round of 16.
Hana Goda (#27) vs Satsuki Odo (#8) – 2:3 (11:6, 11:9, 5:11, 10:12, 4:11)
These two had never faced each other before, but Hana Goda made sure to leave an impression. The 17-year-old Egyptian raced to a 2:0 lead, putting Odo under serious pressure.
However, the Japanese player slowly found her rhythm, staged a comeback, and ultimately edged out Goda in a deciding fifth game. A tough loss for Goda, but a strong fight from both players.
Lim Jonghoon (#43) vs Hugo Calderano (#5) – 0:3 (7:11, 3:11, 8:11)
Head-to-head before the match: 2-5 in favor of Calderano.
Just four days ago, Lim Jonghoon shocked Hugo Calderano with a win. This time, the Brazilian came in fully prepared. Focused and aggressive, he dominated the match from the start, flipping the script and securing a convincing 3:0 win.
A statement performance that sends him into the next round, where he will face either Kanak Jha or An Jaehyun.
Bernadette Szocs (#13) vs Bruna Takahashi (#23) – 3:1 (12:10, 11:7, 10:12, 11:5)
Before today, their head-to-head record stood at 2-1 in favor of Szocs, though Takahashi had won their most recent meeting in 2021.
This match was all about tight margins. Szocs had a match point in the third game at 10:9 but couldn’t close it out. However, she made no mistake in the fourth game, sealing the win and moving into the next round.
